Good job with the research. Another thing is that Quicktime vids are much larger and can take a long time to download.

I'm not really shooting for the iPod crowd right now, but I might start uploading a Quicktime along with the flash later on and you can tell me if it works ok or not.

It's hard to keep up with all this.

Hmmm... interesting decisions I see.

I did a little research, after reading your comments, and it looks like the percentage of people that have quicktime installed is more like 60-65% (and that may have been a couple years ago), still that leaves out a lot of people. On the other hand, as you mention, with flash you are leaving out the the iPod, iPhone and iPad crowd.

I think I'm going to go the mp4 route to start with, and tweak it from there. Flash may be prevalent right now, but it seems to be on the way out. At least they will get a message to download quicktime, much like I would if I didn't have Flash installed.

Not that I expect to have critical videos, or many hits anyway ;-)

Yea, we are up early, just not used to the time difference yet.

I use flash on this site because most people have a flash player in their browser. I like Quicktime better, but from what I read, less than 20% of browsers have the Quicktime player. So, most people won't go and download, they will just click away.

I have some QTime vids at my school site, but they tend to be bigger files and take some time time to download. Flash is a progressive download so it plays right away. See here

The JW player comes with the Wordpress plugin I installed so that's the one I use. I might also upload two vids, one flash and one MPEG4 so iPhone can see the vids.

Hey Kevin, just wondering why you've decided to use JWplayer in lieu of the other formats you've tried. Now that I have the iPhone 4 with the HD video, I've been playing around and thinking I'd just use a straight Quicktime movie on the site. Is there a reason you've decided not to do that?

BTW that's pretty early to be going for breakfast. Guess the roosters got you up, huh?
