I am a middle school science teacher in Pennsylvania. Teaching is a second career for me as I was employed as a scientist in the New Jersey pharmaceutical industry. I worked in a quality control lab environment testing many of the raw materials. I also worked as a junior scientist in the semiconductor industry, working with and developing photoresist. I have continued my studies at the Gemological Institute of America where I have earned my Graduate Gemologist ( G.G.) degree. I continue to study and research gems and gemstones.
My background includes a B.A. in Mathematics from Rutgers University in New Jersey and an M.Ed. in Science Education from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. My academic background and prior work experience give me a deep understanding of the role of a science teacher and helps me to come up with hands-on lesson plans that integrate both mathematics and science. I consider myself to be a scientist and teacher and also an amateur mathematician.
Over the years I have developed many labs and demonstrations into unique projects. My goal here is to document and describe many of these projects so others may use them. I also hope to have discussions about learning and doing science and to create a community of middle school science teachers where we can share and learn from each other.
I am married to a Filipina and have been to the Philippines four times for a total of about one years time. We have a four year old daughter and a son. In my spare time I work on our non-profit organization, the Southern Philippine Children’s Shelter. I plan to retire in the southern Philippines and to spend time in Digos and Samal, which are in Mindanao.
